Thursday, June 5th, 2008 Senator Barack Obama claimed the Democratic presidential nomination on Tuesday evening, prevailing through an epic battle with Senator Hillary Clinton in a primary campaign that inspired millions of voters from every corner of America to demand change in Washington.
His rival Hillary Clinton has congratulated him on his campaign - although she stopped short of conceding defeat.
65 per cent of participants – spanning all continents right around the world – said the young Illinois senator was their choice to take on John McCain in the race for the White House, against just 35 per cent who selected Hillary Clinton.
